As summer comes to a drizzly end, we’re here to distract you from the wet weather and the lack of Oasis tickets by bringing you five brilliant campaigns from the month of August. Enjoy.
Virgin Media - 'Walrus Whizzer'.
Virgin Media O2 continues its very successful ‘To Better and Beyond’ campaign with this third instalment featuring a Walrus – the latest star following 2022’s Highland Rider and 2023’s Goat Glider. In the latest ad, the walrus whizzer smoothly sets sail as puzzled fishermen look on, symbolising the seamless Virgin Media experience. The film was directed by Andreas Nilsson and shot in his native Sweden.
Refugease – 'The Unsafest Journey'.
UK-based charity Refugease has launched a new campaign urging commuters to donate travel costs to support refugees. The campaign features a 30-second film, a tube station takeover, murals on the Kent Coast and radio ads simulating refugee distress calls.
Digital OOH ads depict the harrowing reality of refugees’ struggles at sea. Created by Havas London and street artist Humor, the campaign aims to raise awareness and funds for the Refugease humanitarian efforts. Very moving and important work.
Rightmove - 'Search Terms'.
Property website Rightmove has released an autumn campaign delving into people’s unique requirements when moving house. The campaign features a diverse range of home searches with a nod to some fictional characters and their habitats. They include references to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sherlock Holmes and Rapunzel. We love the simplicity of this campaign, giving you that “why has no one thought of this before?” feeling.
Adidas Originals x Arsenal FC.
As football teams get more creative with their kit launches every season, Arsenal might have just taken the top prize this year with the help of Adidas and The Midnight Club.
Narrated by actor (and die-hard Gunners fan) Will Poulter, the film depicts what it means to be an Arsenal supporter. It celebrates the club’s originality on and off the pitch with various cameos from past players and hidden Easter eggs that only true football fans will understand. We’d love to show you the full ad on here, but Adidas has restricted it to YouTube only so you can watch it here.
Thomas Cook x Marine Conservation Society.
We know plastics are disturbing sea life, and while many of us are trying to use eco-friendly alternatives more effectively, numerous sources of plastic pollution remain overlooked. One such source is the millions of inflatables discarded by holidaymakers each year, often left on beaches or the sea, causing severe harm to marine wildlife.
To address this issue, Thomas Cook and The Marine Conservation Society have launched a new campaign to raise awareness and promote inflatables’ reduction, reuse or recycling. The hard-hitting campaign depicts sea creatures washed up and deflated on beaches. The ad aims to make holidaymakers think twice before heading to the shops to buy a lilo the moment they arrive. Such a great idea.
So there you have it creative friends. We hope you enjoyed August’s Campaigns of the Month. We’ll be back in September for even more wonderful ads from across the world, and remember, if you’re looking for an advertising agency to help your brand be featured in a round-up like this, let’s have a natter.
