July Campaigns of the Month
4 mins read

After what seems like months of endless football and politics, we’ve got another Campaigns of the Month round up for you that contains absolutely no football or political campaigns whatsoever. Okay, maybe just a couple. But they are very good, we promise. Have a look at what July had to offer in the world of advertising and marketing.

Adidas – ‘Hey Jude Pt 2’

The Euros seems like a long time ago now and for England fans, probably not long enough. But despite the Three Lions not living up to expectations on the pitch, the tournament did give us some memories we’ll cherish forever, one of which prompted this genius reactive ad from Adidas. To mark Jude Bellingham’s spectacular last-minute overhead kick against Slovakia, his sponsor flipped their logo on its head in a simple but impactful piece of creative that appeared the following day. The perfect way to cap off their ‘Hey Jude’ campaign this summer.

Monzo x Greggs – ‘ATMmm’

Who doesn’t love a sausage roll? Like, seriously get in touch if you don’t as we’d love to hear from you. Anyway, Monzo took our thinking and ran with it by teaming up with the nation’s favourite supplier of sausage rolls – Greggs – to deliver a sausage roll ATM on a street in Newcastle. Yes that’s right, a sausage roll ATM. Now, other than the fact this sounds amazing, it’s also a very clever move from both brands to promote their new partnership, which will see Monzo Perks and Max subscribers receive a free weekly sausage roll, doughnut or regular hot drink from Greggs. It also forms part of Monzo’s wider ‘Money Never Felt So Monzo’ campaign. We think it’s brilliant.

McVities – ‘It’s a cake, you biscuit’

Staying on the food theme, are Jaffa Cakes cakes or biscuits? This latest campaign from TBWA\London for McVities could actually settle the debate and rival the iconic ‘Half Moon, Full Moon, Total Eclipse’ ads of the late 90s at the same time. The campaign features a series of playful OOH executions and social films that encourage debate but ultimately chastise those who stupidly think it’s a biscuit. The copy really stands out with some brilliant lines including “We’re a cake, you biscuit”, “Say ‘biscuit’ one more time, we dare you” and “Clue’s on the box, bruv”. According to testing from System1, it’s one of the most effective ads in a long time so it’s clearly working too. Anyone really fancy a Jaffa Cake now?

Nike – ‘Winning Isn’t For Everyone’

It’s another Nike advert that’s got people talking. They generally do nowadays. But as most people are pointing out, this one seems different. Ahead of the Olympics in Paris, Wieden + Kennedy teamed up with leading athletes to produce another incredible film but with a message that has really divided opinion. And the message is that when it comes to competition, unfortunately not everyone can be a winner. Whether you agree with the message and the tone of the ad, there’s no doubt that Nike is still the number one brand when it comes to creating ads that capture attention.

Kamala Harris – ‘Kamala HQ’

If you’re not aware of Brat summer, where the hell have you been? Inspired by Charli XCX’s latest album and its soon-to-be iconic neon green cover, Brat Summer is all about ditching the clean, butter-wouldn’t-melt aesthetic and embracing your feisty inner brat. The album has inspired countless brand campaigns since it dropped but the true marker of its influence was when it entered the world of politics in the run up to the recent UK General Election. Now, Vice President Kamala Harris and her team have embraced Brat and used it as the foundation for her upcoming presidential campaign. So far it seems to be working, with many people suggesting she could run Trump all the way in what was until now thought to be an easy victory for the Mar-a-lago MAGAlomaniac. If you haven’t seen the Harris for President campaign yet, make sure to check out @KamalaHQ across social.
